ScraperWiki workshop

The ScraperWiki workshop at the Washington Post was very informative and engaging.

I worked with the group that was mining crime data statistics. It was fascinating to see how raw data could be pulled and categorized geographically by longitude and latitude.

But what was even more interesting for me was the idea of creating a “new” perspective that could be used for everything from policy-making to creating new police beats.

During the workshop, I helped “analyze” the data to make it more user friendly. I came to realize the importance in interpreting data in a way that it can’t be misinterpreted.

Also interesting to me was the passion that the ScraperWiki leaders displayed for their work. The workshop was definitely productive.
